The festival remains the only place I have ever managed to forget the real world entirely, and it's something I will always remain grateful that I am allowed to attend it in this capacity.
I don't know what I'm going to do without the festival for another year. I get that the Eavises and the crew need the time off, and I get that I'm lucky to be here this year, since it was supposed to be a fallow year. I've had an amazing time, shared amazing experiences, made friends, seen incredible bands, the best humanity has to offer and the worst nature can throw at me.
I'm so grateful for everyone I've spent time with over the past four days, because things just wouldn't have been the same without them. I can't thank the people who read and commented for having the patience to get through the reams of text, although I did try not to bang on about the Wurzels too much, and to break up the words with pretty pictures, at least.
Crowds at the West Holts stage. Isn't it beautiful? |
There will be a lump in my throat when I trudge off the site for two years, and I can only cross my fingers that I'll be allowed to do this again when the festival returns in 2013. I'm so lucky to have this on my doorstep. There's not a single day that I haven't been overwhelmed that this amazing festival appears almost out of nowhere every single year, attracts the biggest bands (hey, I might not like them but I know they're big).
I guess with a two year break, we had to go through the rain, and the heat, to sort of make up for what we'd have been missing otherwise.
As always, I'll keep the blog updated with the clean-up, the review, and any news as it comes into the Gazette, although for obvious reasons, it may be a little thin on the ground.
Thank you for reading. No doubt I'll be back within a few days, moaning about how no-one cleaned up after themselves, and with photos of the clean-up operation.
Thank you to the 170,000 new best friends I've made, I'm so sorry for the people who didn't get tickets and didn't get to be here to experience this.
Pendulum, QOTSA - I don't expect to be able to blog from the stages, and..well, if it's ok with you, I'd quite like to actually watch 'em, rather than tap at a screen. Then home for a shower, and a good night's sleep.
Catch you in the real world, guys. Hope it treats you well.
